HBO AND THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR CIVIL AND HUMAN RIGHTS, INC.
CORDIALLY INVITE YOU TO ATTEND THE ATLANTA PREMIERE OF THE
HBO DOCUMENTARY FILM SOUTHERN RITES

In 2009, photographer Gillian Laub’s images of Montgomery County, Georgia’s racially segregated proms appeared in the New York Times Magazine. The article ignited a firestorm of national outrage and led the community to finally integrate its proms.

Directed by Laub and executive produced by Grammy and Oscar winning artist John Legend, SOUTHERN RITES is a compelling new film that journeys back to the community in Georgia where the proms are now integrated. However, in the aftermath of a fatal shooting of a young black man and in the midst of a heated local election, the community still grapples with issues of race that extend well beyond the senior prom.
